Access boundary

Trust and safety
Definition

An access boundary is the edge around a part of company knowledge that decides which roles, people, skills, and agents may read or change it.

permission boundaryrole-based access

An access boundary decides who can see and change what.

That sounds simple until AI is involved. A company may want a sales assistant to understand the promise made to a customer, without giving it access to private margin planning. A reporting workflow may need project status without seeing leadership notes.

Good AI systems do not depend on everyone remembering what to hide. The boundaries need to be part of the system itself.

Shared Context Still Needs Doors

Shared context does not mean one giant folder everyone can read.

The useful version is role-scoped. Sales gets sales context. Finance gets finance context. Leadership can see across the whole where appropriate. Agents work from the context their role is allowed to use.
