I’m Tim Crossley. I’ve spent over fifteen years building and running companies, including one with a 40-person team.
My background is the work underneath a company: sales, delivery, finance, hiring, client relationships, handoffs, and the decisions that make the whole thing hold together.
I know the pattern from the inside. Approvals pile up waiting for me. Handoffs stall until I weigh in. A vacation turns into a phone in my hand by the pool. Too much of how the company works lives in my own head, and that, more than any market or competitor, is what limits how far it can go.
I tried the usual answers. Hire more people. Buy more software. Write process documents nobody reads. Each helped around the edges, but none changed the central fact: the business still ran through me.
Then AI arrived, and like everyone else, I was taken with what it could do. My team was too. We put it inside tools we already used, and some of the work got genuinely better. But everyone was still using it alone. It knew only what the person in front of it thought to type, so each of us kept re-explaining our corner of the business from scratch.
AI could make a person faster. It couldn’t make a company smarter, because it never held the company. It only ever held whoever was typing.
That was the gap I set out to close: one shared context for the whole company, so every person and every agent could work from the same picture instead of rebuilding their own version. The real work was everything around the AI: collecting what the business knows, respecting who may see what, connecting the tools, and turning repeatable work into skills the system could carry.
That system became ProtobaseOS.
